Book #31: Night Game

Novel Title: Night Game

Author: Christine Feehan

ISBN: 0-515-73976-9

Pages: 469

Price: US - $9.99 CAN- $13.50

Summary:

Gator Fontenot of the Special Forces paranormal squad can't refuse an urgent request to save the elusive Iris "Flame" Johnson, a victim of the same horrific experiments that warped Gator. Now unleashed, she's a red-haired weapon of unimaginable destructive powers, a walking time bomb bent on revenge in the sultry bayous of New Orleans and hunted by a shadowy assassin. It's Gator's job to reel Flame in. But can two people haunted by violent betrayals trust the passion that soon ignites them? Or is one of them just playing another seductive and deadly night game?

My Thoughts:

I wasn't really expecting much for this book. I was kind of excited to get it because it was written by Christine Feehan who is absolutely amazing. Although I love her, I wasn't in love with this book. It could have been that I thought that I was missing an entire plot line. Is this book in a series? No idea.
I think the characters in this novel were a little over dramatic. Flame definatly was a little dramatic in trying to get revenge for getting her powers. Hello? At least your not dead... At least be a little grateful.
And I thought Gator would be more of a tortured soul. Instead he was just a regular guy who had some "shadows". Whatever that means.
The one character that I did love was Nonny. She was the cutest little grandmother and so innocent. :-D
Other than that though, the romance scenes were nothing special. The action scenes were confusing and the overall plot wasn't the best. *shrugs* oh well.
This book wasn't my favorite but it very well could be yours.

Book #30: Twice as Hot

Novel Title: Twice As Hot

Author: Gena Showalter

ISBN: 978-0-373-77437-1

Price: US $7.99 CAN $9.99

Pages: 424

Summary:

Belle Jamison is finally starting to feel like a normal girl again. Her job as a paranormal investigator is going well, she's learned to control her supernatural abilities (mostly) and she's just gotten engaged to Rome Masters, the ultra-sexy operative who once tried to neutralize her!
But planning a wedding is never easy, especially when the bride keeps accidentally torching her dress, the groom returns from a dangerous mission with selective memory loss and the man responsible now wants Belle for himself. With Rome's ex determined to win him back and a new band of supervillians on the horizon, it will take all Belle's powers - plus a little help from her trust empath sidekick - to save the day, salvage the wedding and prove that true love really does conquer all.

My Thoughts:

This book was a roller coaster of emotions. Like the book before this one, it made me bust up laughing because of Belle's sense of humor. She's just so freakin' funny! But you got to have the good with the bad and there was definitely lots of bad. I must have teared up, like, a million times.
The back of the book is wrong BTW. Rome did not suffer from minor memory loss, he suffered from the greatest memory loss ever (forgetting who Belle was). And it didn't help that Lexis was being a total bitch the whole time.
Luckily, everything turns out to be alright. Tanner finds a lady love and so does Sherridon, Belle's best friend. Lexis is still undetermined.
The wedding was awesome but I would have liked to see more detail. The ending was kind of lame but this book isn't a Pulitzer so you kinda have to deal with it. :-)

Book #29: Playing With Fire

Novel Title: Playing With Fire

Author: Gena Showalter

ISBN: 978-0-373-77129-5

Price: US $6.99 CAN $8.50

Pages: 374

First Sentence:
(On Belle's Resume)
Objective: To find an exciting, exhilarating career with the opportunity for advancement and a low rate of employee dismissals.

Summary:

Earth, Wind & Fire aren't just a band anymore...
Used to be my greatest achievement was holding a job more than three days. Now suddenly I can shoot fireballs, chill your drink or blow-dry your hair at fifty paces with a blink of my eye!
It all started when this crazy scientist dropped something in my Grande Mocha Latte. Of course I got wicked sick. Next morning I'm waking up with this total hottie bending over me. He tells me 1) his name's Rome Masters, 2) he's a government agent and 3) I can control the four elements with a thought.
He seems even less pleased by my (apparently irreversible) transformation than I am...Because now he'll have to kill me.

My Thoughts:

This book is hilarious! I was literally laughing my ass off and that's not good 'cause I'm pretty fond of my ass. The main character, Belle, has this outlook on life that is a typical woman in the 21st century. She has a FABULOUS sense of humor.
Rome, of course, is delicious. And he has a little superpower of his own. Sunny, his little daughter, is tooooooo cute! Lexis, his ex, is alright but i don't really like her that much. *shrugs* oh well.
Gena Showalter was a genius when she came up with Belle and her whole situation. Belle seems to be like a real person you would be like or someone you would know. Just a crazy girl. But she is AWESOME!
My 3rd favorite character is Tanner because he is just so funny. He's this random guy that inadvertently helps Belle escape from Pretty Boy (aka Vincent Jones). He is a typical teenage guy. Horny as hell but so sensitive <-- hint!. And he makes wicked booby sandwiches *wink*
This book was fantastic! I was expecting more hanky panky with Rome and Belle but the whole story builds up their relationship and their love that it was just totally worth it.

Book # 28: Lyon

Novel Title: Lyon

Author: Elizabeth Amber

ISBN: 978-0-7582-2041-7

Price: US $12.95 CAN $15.45

Pages: 296

First Sentence:

Lord Lyon Satyr prowled the twilight streets of Paris, hunting.

Summary:

He is on the prowl...For his most luscious prize...
The youngest of the Satyr brothers, Lyon enjoys working in the family's Tuscan vineyards, caring for his menagerie of animals and bedding beautiful women. But he knows he must fulfill his destiny of taking the last daughter of King Feydon as his bride. And so he travel to Paris to wed the infamous Juliet Rabelais...
A celebrated courtesan noted for both her culinary - and carnal - talents, Juliet is a voluptuous beauty with a body meant to tease. And with a full moon only days away, Lyon is quickly aroused. But after a night of intimacy, Lyon wonders if Juliet is truly a mistress of sensual pleasure or whether his sexual mastery will be her undoing...

My Thoughts:

This book was a little confusing even though I enjoyed it.
Lyon goes to Paris to find his bride and he thinks he finds her. He lays down with a Nereid and does the horizontal tango thinking its his soon to be wifey. In comes Juliet. She's walking down the street and comes across Ms. Nereid and Lyon doing the nasty and she feels like she's having sex with Lyon. Weeeiiiiirrd.
Apparently Ms. Juliet works in a brothel but she doesn't sell her body - Noooooo... she sells food. And because she's a little faerie, she uses food to trick men into thinking they had sex with her. You go girl! Her boss is totally sketchy and wants to sleep with her but wants to keep her innocence in tact. And get this, if he thinks she's been screwing around he 'checks' to make sure she's still a virgin. Gross.
So Juliet does her little food lurvin with Lyon and gives him a butt load of memories thinking that he actually did and done her. Well, once a month these Satyr boys have to have sex and if they don't then they die. So Ms. Nereid comes to him, has sex with him, and gets prego...
So when Juliet finds out, she's like ' oh its cool.. you're my sister'.
uhhhh.. WHAT!?
Apparently back in the day, someone murdered her sister but this little nymph thing took her body. so the nymph lady lied to Juliet and had Lyon's baby. But she doesn't want the baby, she wants Lyon's protection which he can only give if he's married to her. but he HAS to marry Juliet.
sooooo confusing but they work it all out in the end...
Oh and Juliet's boss? That's her brother...

Book # 27: Raine

Novel Title: Raine

Author: Elizabeth Amber

ISBN: 978-0-7582-2040-0

Pages: 313

Price: US $12.95 CAN $15.45

First Sentence:

Jordan shifted on the wooden chair upon which she's been carefully posed, causing the drape over it to slip sideways and slither into a heap on the floor.

Summary:

As a lover, his skills are legendary... But in matters of the heart he has much to learn...
The middle brother, Raine, is both sensual and stoic. Scarred by once taking a wife who could not accept his carnal needs, he wants no part in another marriage. But duty commands that he fulfill his promise to wed King Feydon's second daughter, Jordan...
The loyal satyr begins a search that leads him from Tuscany to romantic Venice, where his beautiful bride awaits, unaware of what passionate delights fate has planned for her. Raine is careful not to reveal his powerful satyr sexuality, for fear of driving yet another woman away. But unbeknownst to him, Jordan is no ordinary woman and was born with an insatiable appetite for love. And as Raine's heart begins to melt for her, how long will he be able to hide his true nature when Jordan seems to want him so fiercely?

My Thoughts:

This book surprised me soooo much! I was expecting a typical love story with Raine and Jordan considering his past with his wife but noooo.
Apparently every year on her birthday, Jordan is taken by some doctor to be analyzed till midnight. He provides meetings to show the people of the medical world Jordan's interesting anomaly. I can't tell you what it is but its something you never would have guessed!!
I was kind of disappointed that during the whole book, there was only a little interaction with Raine's ex wife. She only got a couple of lines and that was the end of her! Poo!
The one thing that annoys me about Elizabeth Amber are her sub plots. The subplot in this novel involved a cardinal who was in LUUUURRRVVE with Raine. And Raine being Raine is like 'Dude, get the !@#$ away from me. I'm into chicks.' Cardinal man doesnt get the clue and wants Raine soooo bad he practically steals Jordan.
A wonderful romance scene between Jordan and Raine is when Jordan ties him up. Raine does not like to be tied up because that relinquishes his control. Bad Jordan!
I love how even though Raine can be a complete bonehead, he just loves Jordan to death and will do anything for her and accepts her anomaly with no questions asked. Sweet guy...
This one's a keeper, J!

Book # 26: Nicholas

Novel Title: Nicholas

Author: Elizabeth Amber

ISBN: 978-0-7582-2039-4

Price: US $12.95 CAN $16.50

Pages: 319

First Sentence:

Lord Nicholas Satyr lifted the dagger from the desk before him, anxious to have the task ahead complete.

Summary:

He had sworn to take a proper wife. He hadn't bargained on meeting his match...
Nicholas looks very much like what he is - the handsome, successful heir to a vineyard in Tuscany. But Nicholas is much more, for he is one of the last in an ancient line of satyr men. And the dying king of ElseWorld wants him not only to marry, but to wed one of the king's own daughters - a half-human, half-faerie woman unaware of her heritage. Nicholas won't shirk his duty to produce heirs to guard his race's legacies, but he never plans to make his bride his only lover. A satyr's sexual hunger and sensual skills are legendary. One woman will never satisfy him.
Or so Nicholas believes until he meets Jane. As spirited as she is fey, as beautiful as she is innocent, she is nevertheless determined to make her new husband hers alone - and she's eager for him to teach her every deliciously carnal secret he knows...

My Thoughts:
Okay, so this book was the first in a series that I'm uploading right after this. This book wasn't what i was expecting at all. It's a historical fantasy romance which I'm not really into. Jane is so cute! She is very innocent but once she finds out that her dear hubby might be cheating she pulls out all the stops and confronts him to teach him how to be his mistress while being his wife at the same time. Jane definitely didn't know what she was getting herself into. Dear Nicky taught her some naughty things but in my opinion they were a little tame.
I didn't like the side plot between Jane's aunt and her uncle. They had a little incestuous relationship but that didn't bother me. Her aunt was just so bitchy and evil. The aunt and her friends even had the audacity to have sex with a young man and each other and then kill him. That's just mean.
One thing I really enjoyed about this book was Jane when she was pregnant. Nicholas hadn't told her exactly how long her pregnancy would last (about a month) so she was super surprised when she started giving birth 8 months early. So funny.
My favorite sexual part of the book was towards the end when Nicholas and his brothers, Raine and Lyon, have to sleep with Jane in order to protect her from things coming out of ElseWorld. After reading the books I'm still confused about why they don't want little critters coming out but, that's just me. Anyways, Raine and Lyon have to sleep with her which she finds really weird but she enjoys it. Go Jane!
All in all, it wasn't a bad book, but it wasn't one of my favorite either.
On the back of the book it said "WARNING this is a REALLY HOT book"... Sorry, Elizabeth it's not THAT hot...

Book # 25: Edge of Desire

Novel Title: Edge of Desire

Author: Rhyannon Byrd

ISBN: 978-0-373-77423-4

Pages: 345

Price: US - $7.99 CAN- $8.99

First Sentence:

He needed a woman.

Summary:

An Overdue Awakening
No one ever suspected that Sheriff Riley Buchanan, a local hero, was driven by a dark fear that his ancestral blood would one day transform him into a monster. Now, hunted by his family's brutal enemies, Riley, in search of ancient weapons, comes face-to-face with a woman he had given up years before...
Hope Summers still makes him ache with hunger - for her body and her blood, and Riley wants nothing more than to possess her in every way possible. Still, he knows he must keep his distance. Though fate has other plans....

My Thoughts:

I think the best part of the WHOLE ENTIRE BOOK, was when Hope threw the pies at Riley. Pretty much the funniest thing ever ever ever ever. I have to say, that i definitely was not expecting that.
I was kinda pissed at Hope when she found out what Riley was. Here she is, trying to get into his pants and wants him to tell her what he is, and when he does she freaks out. Smooth, Hope, very smooooooth.
the action scene at the end was kinda weak in my opinion, i was expecting a little more BANG for my buck, ya know?
*shrugs* oh well... It was still definitely worth reading....
